ABOUT A GIRL WHO LIVES IN MELBOURNE : ALEXANDRA GANIPEAU
My name is Alexandra Ganipeau, I am French but I have been living in Melbourne for over 22 years.
Where is your favourite place to shop?
There are a few shops that I love but can’t really justify the price tag, like Husk and Anna Thomas. I do buy a lot of my clothes second hand at various op- shops.
What is your favourite outfit to feel confident?
You are very likely to see me wearing jeans with a shirt in cooler weather and in skirts and t-shirts or dresses in summer
What is the worst fashion crime you can think of?
Showing it all ! I can’t stand these crop top and mini short look unless you are under 14.
I am not a fan of women wearing long boots over jeans.
What is your favourite brand and why?
APC, Leon and Harper, Karl Mark John and Custom made. I'd be happy wearing these only and for ever ! Their cut and design are lovely, classical with a not boring twist and their small sizes are very well cut.
Why is fashion important to you?
I am a very visual person, I like to be surrounded by pretty things and clothes are part of the picture.
Who is your fashion icon or inspiration?
I used to adore Sienna Miller, Jane Birkin, Françoise Hardy,
Do you have any advice to find a bargain?
Yes, op shops are great and I like the idea of recycling perfectly good clothes! I also tend to buy at the end of each season when items are on sale, I buy a lot of classical pieces that I wear for years, I am not worried about current trends.
Do you think fashion varies across cultures?
Style varies more than fashion maybe. But there are definitely differences around the globe. I think culture and weather play a huge part.
What is your favourite accessory and why?
Scarves !! My style is pretty simple,I don’t wear jewels , very little make up so scarves totally dress me up in winter !
Do you prefer summer or winter fashion and why?
I love the look of Winter fashion in magazine but I don’t like buying winter clothes…my Summer wardrobe is about 4 times the size of my Summer one !
